Google threaten China pull-out

Google to launch new OSGoogle has said it may pull out of the Chinese search engine market following a “highly sophisticated and targeted attack” on its network.

Speaking on the company’s official blog, Google’s Chief Legal Officer David Drummond said that the severity of the attack, which targeted the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists, meant Google had decided to review its position in the country. (more…)

EU adviser backs Google trademark ads

Google to launch new OSAn adviser to Europe’s highest legal court has backed Google’s policy of allowing advertisers to bid on trademarked terms.

Google has faced criticism for its decision to open up bidding on trademarked names on its pay-per-click advertising service and is involved in legal dispute with several firms, including the owners of fashion brand Louis Vuitton. (more…)

Microsoft Bing shows impressive growth

Bing, the new search engine launched by Microsoft earlier this month, is showing an impressive growth in market share, according to data analysts comScore.

Just two weeks after launch, Bing is accounting for 12.1 percent of search results in the United States; up 3 percent from its launch share.

Google in Twitter takeover rumoursThe blogosphere has gone into virtual meltdown over rumours that Google could be set to buy popular micro-blogging platform Twitter.

On Thursday night technology startup blog Techcrunch reported that Google, which has previously denied all speculation they might be interested in Twitter, was on the verge of a sealing a deal worth well in excess of $250 million. (more…)

Social media spending climbs

US social networkingDespite the impact of recession hitting marketing budgets this year, 53% of businesses are set to increase spending on social media, says a Forrester Research survey.

However, although spending is increasing, the study of 145 marketing professionals found that most had still set aside a budget of less than $100,000 for their social media activities. (more…)

Google Android Security Flaw Exposed

A serious security flaw has been found in Google’s T-Mobile G1 phone - less than a week after launch.
