Software PortfolioSecure Extranet for Schools - DfES AccreditedA commercial project for the education sector, the goal was to make learning materials on schools’ websites accessible by pupils and staff from any location. Developed in partnership with All Hallows High School in Preston, the system is integrated with the National Curriculum and designed for “complete ease of use”. It is incredibly versatile and can be used by teachers, pupils and parents with little or no technical training. The system allows all parties the chance to view, modify or even create web pages regardless of their location or skill level. Created from the “ground up”, the system was coded in the ASP.NET environment and is built with Microsoft’s MS-SQL database technology. The software achieved accreditation from the Dept. for Education and Skills (DfES) after successfully passing rigorous technical specification and system content testing. In addition, the company was also required to meet stringent financial status requirements. Since 2005 the system has been implemented at 40 schools and is constantly updated and improved. Virtual Private network technology is currently being developed with Belle Vue Boys School, Bradford. This will facilitate remote access for individual school intranets and eliminate the need for LEA security barriers.  Top
SonnautoSonnauto (www.sonnauto.co.uk) are an online retailer of used and new cars. Backbone IT Group were approached by Sonnauto who required programming integration services, website management and ongoing technical support. A redesign of their main website database was undertaken which integrated their system with the technical requirements of Money Supermarket; a third party provider of data to online car retailers such as Auto Trader and Sonnauto. Liaising with Money Supermarket, an XML information transfer system was developed to make Sonnauto’s database structure third-party compliant. Completion of the project has seen large increases in the number of visitors Sonnauto’s website converts into customers, and the system now accounts for approximately 80% of all processed car sales. Groundwork Green Business ParkGroundwork’s Green Business Parks is a not-for-profit organisation that arranges environmental improvements for business premises and processes. In 2005 Groundwork approached Backbone IT Group to develop a solution for their www.greenbusinessparks.co.uk website. Funded in part by the UK Government, the aim of the website was to foster a inter-park community and provide a forum on green business park issues. In addition, the website would bring together the six business parks in North West England falling under Groundwork’s remit. The Green Business Park project involved:
