Vivo Barefoot


Vivo Barefoot is a running and lifestyle shoe brand owned and managed by members of the well known Clarks shoe family. Based in Central London, they operate flagship bricks and mortar stores in key cities internationally as well as through a successful e-commerce operation, selling to a young, professional niche market


Vivo Barefoot wanted to access China. They needed to integrate their e-commerce portal with Chinese payment systems and to overcome slow loading due to Chinese censorship. Additionally, they sought to understand Chinese consumer needs and develop a social media presence.




Backbone IT initially provided integration expertise with Alipay, China’s largest payment provider as well as consultancy on slow load speeds and website design localisation. As a next and vital phase, vital consumer market research trials were undertaken to gain vital insights into the perception of the brand revealing exciting insights. Social media accounts for the company were created on Weibo and WeChat populated with educational and lifestyle content. This culminated in the development of a WeChat e-commerce shop to further maximise and future-proof the company’s China e-commerce potential.


The company invested further in the Chinese market opening flagship brick-and-mortar stores in Beijing.
